Frequently Asked Questions

Answers based on our own experience and on what visitors tell us.

What makes Peruvian Corner different?

We're a 100% family business: Miguel cooks, Fanny makes the desserts, and their children already help wait tables. We renovated the space ourselves and bring in Peruvian ingredients you can't find in Hawaii — like rocoto pepper and purple corn — through friends in Peru.

What kind of Peruvian food do you serve?

Peruvian criolla cuisine with strong nikkei (Japanese) and chifa (Chinese) influence — the fusion that defines Peru's gastronomy.

What do you recommend for a first visit?

The Ceviche Clásico, the Lomo Saltado and the Lilikoi Cheesecake are the dishes most praised by our customers in their reviews.

Do you cook everything to order?

Yes. The kitchen only fires up once your order comes in — nothing is prepped ahead of time.

Do you use authentic Peruvian ingredients?

Yes. The ones we can't find in Hawaii — like rocoto pepper or purple corn — we get through friends who ship them to us from Peru.

Do you work with local producers?

Yes, our vegetables come from Oahu farms. We got our own start at the island's Farmers Markets and we keep supporting local producers.

Where exactly are you located?

At a residential property at 67-456 Goodale Ave, Waialua. We recommend using GPS to get there.

What is criolla cuisine?

It's the foundation of homestyle Peruvian cooking: the blend of colonial Spanish tradition with Andean and indigenous ingredients.

What is Nikkei cuisine?

The fusion of Peruvian and Japanese cooking, brought by the Japanese immigrants who settled in Peru. Tiradito, for example, was born from that blend.

What traditional drinks do you offer?

Chicha morada (purple corn drink) and Inca Kola, two unmissable classics of the Peruvian table.

Do you do catering or private events?

Yes. Chef Miguel cooks live for private events, festivals, birthdays and celebrations across the island. See more about private events →

Can I order something that's not on the menu?

If Miguel has the ingredients, he'll still make it — from a fish stew to sushi, thanks to his experience in Japanese restaurants.

Are you pet-friendly?

Yes, you can bring your dog — the whole space is outdoors.
